The mysterious Blue Porcupine figures in the heraldry associated with the town of Gravesend in Kent, a small and ancient ferryport in a small and ancient county. Some times sporting a fish's tail, some times passenger in a boat under oar, the Porcupine, like the town, is a creature of both earth and water.
